For those of you who didn't see it, or for that matter know about it, I give you the 2008 Mark Twain award presentation for 2008's winner, George Carlin. In this award ceremony turned tribute, special guests include Bill Maher, Jon Stewart, Denis Leary, Lewis Black, and several others. It was broadcast on PBS, cause when I think George Carlin, I think PBS, but I hope you enjoy regardless.

From the press release:

NBC’S "SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE " REMEMBERS
GEORGE CARLIN THIS WEEKEND

“SNL” Honors Legendary Comedian George Carlin, Re-Airing Its 1975 Premiere Episode with Carlin as Host

NEW YORK – June 24, 2008 – As hilarious and heartfelt tributes pour in marking the passing of groundbreaking comedian George Carlin, "Saturday Night Live" pays tribute on Saturday, June 28 (11:30 p.m.-1:00 a.m. ET), re-airing its premiere episode that featured Carlin as host.

Remembering Carlin, "Saturday Night Live" creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels noted: "You never forget the people who were there at the beginning. George Carlin helped give 'Saturday Night Live' its start as our first host. He was gracious, fearless, and most important of all, funny."

Typifying the show's "of-the-moment" sensibility that would continue throughout its over thirty-year history, Carlin was brought in as the first host of the groundbreaking comedy show. Carlin performed three individual monologues on the program that also introduced audiences to the now legendary "Not Ready For Prime-Time Players" – Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtin, Garrett Morris, Larraine Newman and Gilda Radner.

The 1975 episode also features musical guests Janis Ian and Billy Preston as well as a landmark performance from comedian Andy Kaufman.

Jack Burns [26 Jun 2008|12:06pm]

Georges original partner.

what did he sound/ look like?

I search on his name on youtube and got:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAMqJeN7IvA

an old burns and allen album, and I can barely tell the voices apart- (Carlin is making his voice cartooney)

the youtube search also gave me

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98xMOdQqB1o

but I dont think thats the same guy. THAT jack burns is that generic square jawed deep voiced actor we saw on TV all the time in the 70s in various parts

I realize I've posted a lot, so I hope no one's annoyed with me. I just wanted to make one more remembrance post.

Thank You, George

I will still wonder how I get anywhere at all with all the idiots and maniacs driving around me.

I will still kindly ask people to remove their shit so I have a place to put my stuff.

When I play Monopoly, I'll snatch up Baltic Avenue as soon as it becomes available. I'll try to purchase Chance, then tell the dealer to shuffle them good, because I keep getting the same "200 dollars for being an asshole" card. Damn that little man with a hat.

I'll line up at the truck to get some Mallomars.

I'll listen for the two minute warning.

I'll remember that tonight's forecast is, in fact, dark.

I'll be tuning in to Double Trouble, the story of Siamese Twins joined at the lips.

I'll remember that some stuff should not be brought home because of the way it sounds, especially kumquats.

If I ever see an empty plate, I'll search for the mouse in a parka.

I plan on entering another quiet business on Sunday morning, and asking "ARE YOU OPEN ON THURSDAY!", and many other ways of keeping people alert.

I'll never drive behind any woman whose head I cannot see at all, nor any man over fifty wearing a hat. ESPECIALLY a checkered hat with earlaps.

I'll remember the greatest thing about living on the water's edge, only having assholes on three sides of you.

Rat shit, bat shit, dirty old twat. 69 assholes tied in a knot. Hooray, lizard shit, FUCK!

I will never hear the airline announcements again without laughing hysterically. And if the plane does crash, I will head to the nearby farm house, have a Dr. Pepper, and call the police.

I still support the state prison farms idea, where they'll all be roaming the landscape in search of fun, just like now. But at least we'll have a balanced budget.

I'll continue to think about the language the way you taught us, and to be able to vent our anger with cultural items with our own Free Flowing Hostility.

Fuck Mickey Mouse. Fuck him in the asshole with a big rubber dick.

I'll remember that ten times outta ten, Nicky, Vinny, and Tony will beat the shit out of Todd, Kyle, and Tucker.

I'll remember that Harley Davidson used to mean something.

Carrot Top packed my bags.

I'll definitely remember the best way to help the children: LEAVE THEM THE FUCK ALONE!

I'll be sure that anytime I see an accident that I'm NOT involved in, to ask the police to bring the bodies over a little closer.

Hold some hope in my heart that you've found your way to that alternate universe with all the Uncle Daves.

I know someone on here already said it, but thanks for being here for a little while with us, George. Joe Bless You.
